SEE & DO

We are not going to write a whole Stockholm guide, simply because you can find a lot of them already. We will instead give you a few of our best tips on what to do in the city we call our home. What places would the staff at Rex Hotel visit if we were tourists for a day?

Built on islands and surrounded by water, Stockholm really is a beautiful city. To get a proper view of it we’d make our first stop at Fjällgatan – a quiet street in the historic district of Södermalm that offers a splendid view. While you’re at it, make a quick ice-cream stop at classic Fjällgatans Kaffestuga, where the Blomqvist family have been serving ice-cream over the past 50 years.

Across the water from Fjällgatan you’ll see Djurgården, one of Stockholms most beautiful islands. We will soon get there. First, though, we make our way from Fjällgatan down to Stadsgården to visit one of our favourite museums, Fotografiska Muséet. Fotografiska offers an exhibition space of 2,500 square meters where everything revolves around photography. Exhibiting world-renowned photographers, many of whom have never been shown in Sweden before, as well as those who are not yet established – Fotografiska is an attraction we would be sad for you to miss.

After this we would take a boat trip from Slussen to Djurgården. It offers a perfect stroll through the forest and meadows and is also the host of several museums. You can also get here by catching tram number seven, also known as Stockholms one and only tram. For those of you travelling with children (or for those of you who might just have an inner child who wants to come out and play) we would recommend a visit to Gröna Lund amusement park and its attractions. For the more cultural-minded, a visit at Liljevalchs Art Gallery, just around the corner.

If there was not enough art, a short boat trip over to Moderna Muséet, the national museum of modern and contemporary art, at Skeppsholmen would suit just perfect.

Our day is coming to an end and you’re probably longing for a glass of wine before your beauty sleep. Take a stroll over the bridges and take a stop at one of the many bars and restaurants around Stureplan on you way back to Rex Hotel.

You would probably not fit all this into one single day. Luckily, you have a few days more in town, and envigorated by our breakfast buffet you can pick up where you left.
